See-Saw Seat

See-saw seat is an experimental seat driven by the wood-working explorations. Started by understanding the way of wood, a collaborative object was made for interaction. The cantilever structure operates through a slip-and- grip system, while charcoal traces from the timber brush register the transformation of movement across surface textures.

Kerf-cut seat and Marking tool respond to movement and pressure, creating an interactive and engaging experience. They form a cohesive system that transforms bodily interaction into dynamic spatial expression.

Extending from the collaborative article, the project explores performative and experimental seating inspired by the movements of Marking, Gliding, and Bending. These actions inform the design process, translating motion into spatial expressions that shape how the body interacts with the seat and leaves its trace upon the surface.

The seat frame is composed of three layers of timber, carefully processed through a series of cutting, heating, pre-bending,
and glue-bending techniques to achieve a strong and resilient curved form.
A reinforced structure is introduced to support the central seating element. Crafted from solid American Rock Maple and Oak, the components are precisely cut, shaped, and glued together with the frame layers, ensuring both stability and seamless integration within the overall form.
